Covid - 19 Update from your Executive

We are very pleased with the positive reaction to the 2021 extended membership scheme that we implemented - hopefully this, together with the work that we are doing to entertain you each month with the Brit Chit Chat update, will go some way to offsetting the inevitable disappointment of not being able to meet as a group or organize our normal slate of events.  Since the beginning of May 2020, we have gained 7 new GBBCC memberships.

As you know, the Executive have decided that it is not appropriate to be organizing club sponsored cruises and other events at the moment.  Restriction on group sizes, lack of access to public washroom facilities, restaurants and the health care requirements to practice social distancing and the wearing of face masks make it inappropriate to be pushing too fast and too far.

However, please remember that the Club have listed the details of many past cruises on our web site

Please consider arranging your own drives, using these as a guide - perhaps with a few friends or fellow members (remembering that the group size should not exceed 10 people).  If you do want to reach out to fellow members, contact details are included in the Member’s Section of our website under Directory of Members.

If you do organize your own drives, please share some photographs so that we can include these in future releases of Brit Chit Chat.

Whatever you decide to do, please enjoy your British Car, but Stay Safe!

We are sad to report the passing of Dame Vera Lynn on June 18th 2020 at the age of 103 years.  Vera Lynn was Britain's wartime Forces' Sweetheart, and remained one of the country's most potent symbols of resilience and hope.  With songs such as “We'll Meet Again” and “The White Cliffs of Dover”, she inspired both troops abroad and civilians at home during World War Two.  As Britain's cities came under attack, her wistful songs, with their messages of yearning and optimism, were heard in millions of British homes.

We are seeking to improve our GBBCC Facebook page and invite any members who have any particular technical skills with Facebook to offer themselves up to provide some assistance!  We hope that members will like/follow the page so you will receive important updates related to the club, any upcoming event information and other relevant information

Miscellaneous Ramblings #4 – July 1st 2020

On our website, see our new "GBBCC News" section.  The first article is from Brian Bailey who submitted an interesting article about Eppie Wietzes.  Brian knew Eppie very well, back in his racing days.

We encourage you to send interesting news items relating to British cars to our webmaster to be included in this section   webmaster@gbbcc.com

This simulates you in the driver's seat of a car.  You're driving down a road, when you see a big red hand flash in front of you.  You have to put on the brakes.  Then, the “Reaction Time Test” tells you how old you are, when it comes to driving.

Stacked!

Traveling through the world—even in just our normal everyday lives—we have a capacity for bearing the things we carry. Bags, backpacks, purses, satchels, baskets, suitcases; people from different cultures carry different things in various ways. As we go from place to place, the things we bring along with us become metaphors such as memories, fears, hopes and dreams. “Stacked” is a fun exhibition showcasing the feats of strength, durability and capacity vehicles from our collection demonstrate.

When you look upon each vehicle and imagine the things they once carried, “Stacked” could appear as the physical manifestation of our individual stories, the way they build upon one another and how together they form new ideas.

The following link will show you how they went about the actual stacking

The club does remain open for business though and we will continue to produce a monthly Brit Chit Chat which is posted on our GBBCC web site.  Submissions, by GBBCC members to the Brit Chit Chat, are very much encouraged.

HELP PLEASE

For next month’s Brit Chit Chat, we need more material.  Please send us some links to good information including videos about British cars.

How about photos or videos on any car restorations performed by any of our GBBCC members?   Maybe you had a good journey (day trip or a holiday) in your British car in the past few years.
